basically the deal with the CL14 SWupdater and the "new" updater, is that the new updater has a checksum included into it (which is the reason why the file in the binary is a tar.md5 file). so this means that we can't use a different .tar files in the binary folder because it doesn't have the same checksum...
so there are two alternatives:
1. download the old cl14 swupdater, which doesn't have this check... or
2. download the patch for the new updater that louziffer most graciously provided (

using that, and assuming you have 2.1 on your phones already,
install recovery (which will allow you to install applications, themes, etc easier)
