Disable Camera Shutter Sound

I know this is true for the GSM version, so we'll have to see if its also true in the CDMA version.

On the GSM version, the camera has the annoying shutter sound and there's no way to turn it off in the settings. The only way is to replace the actual sound files with ones that are quiet.

You can download the attached zip file and copy the two files onto your SD card somewhere. It contains the camera shutter sound and the video recording one.

You need to be rooted for this to work!!!

Now, using something like RootExplorer, copy the two files, then go to /system/media/audio/ui/ and mount it as R/W. Then paste the two files, overwriting the two existing ones.

Some people report that you can just delete or rename the files instead of using blank ones, so you can try that too.

Depending on the ROM you're using, you may also want to try the Desire Camera, which has an option to disable the shutter sound.
