Screen wear fixes?

I've had a Treo Pro for only 2 months and I didn't install a screen protector right away because they always get bubbles or lines from the stylus or are too grippy. Anyway I dont know how but I now have a couple of "area flaws"... not really scratches, but little patches where it looks as if there is some top layer that has worn away.

These areas of course mar the look of the display, as well as snagging the stylus, and I would bet are just going to keep getting bigger and bigger.

I tried one expensive protector, but didnt apply it right and got some big bubbles I could not get rid of, bit it did seem to make the flaws nearly invisible.

A cheap protector ($6 at Walmart) started leaving lines from the stylus immediately and made the flaw MORE visible.

SO... any recommended screen protectors???

AND... in relation to this device in particular... IS IT SAFE TO USE A WAX/POLISH approach? Since the flaws look like not scratches but almost as if some thin outer layer has worn/scratched away, I am afraid that this is some integral part of the touch-screen system, and if I wax/polish the entire screen I might just polish away all of the touch screen detector stuff completely!

Any advice?

Thanks!
