Thumbs up Windows Mobile 7 could very well be reveled at the Mobile World Congress

If you’ve been behind the curve on the Windows Mobile 7 release, I thought I’d put together a quick set of highlights that will get you up to speed; especially after the letdown at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Windows Mobile 7 could very well be reveled at the Mobile World Congress next month. No time is too soon as Windows Mobile needs a boost to get back in the competition. While it boasted one-fifth of the market shares a few years ago, now it has dropped to 8 percent. Since then the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 was quite a let down and got poor reviews from the start—having small success with the announcement of HTC's new HD2 smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.5 and as reviews said was the best Windows Mobile phone on the market with a capacitive touch screen and other cool features.

Yet as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said at the launch of WinMo6.5, that he wished Microsoft had been releasing WinMo7 instead. And finally it seems like it will be.

Ballmer said during the Consumer Electronics Show, that his company would have big news for the Mobile World Congress, which runs from February 15 to 18. Then in a video interview, he stated "Certainly, there's some stuff that is resonating in some of our competitors' products, and we've got a whole new generation of stuff that will be coming to market in........... ...we'll be talking about that pretty soon." Isn't that the Windows Mobile 7 that should be coming out pretty soon ? Then Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division, said that "Things will be talked about at MWC." Hopefully they will be. Bach also said that Microsoft will work tightly with phone manufactures and wireless carriers to more effectively market Windows phone and that WinMo7 will be taken beyond the business-oriented platform. No one is saying any longer about WinMo7 launching in February, yet we hope to finally see it out in the open.
