I bet that google maps is locating you based on cell phone tower. Google maps locates me about 7 miles from my actual location at home (until I got gps to work).
Did you change the setup "location on/911 only" to "on"?
Are you VZW? Most individuals with VZW seemed to work out of the box once they set location "on". Other cell phone providers had to jump through more hoops:
