the risk of having phones break on flash, or what if people don't like it.
they'll lose their contacts, etc..
sprint isn't going to want to help transfer them.
there's no reason for sprint to risk it.
I don't think anyone expects Sprint to release their own Android update for it, especially due to licensing. Still, all the issues you mentioned apply to all the current ROM updates, too, so Sprint obviously has no problem killing your contacts or potentially damaging your phone with a bad flash.
