About the AS install issue.. try using the
MSI cleanup utility to wipe out all traces of activesync and reinstall it. Are you on Vista? if so you'll need windows mobile device center. Once you get Activesync installed you can try to use something like mymobiler to see the screen. If you cant get that work the only recourse would be a TV out cable to see the screen on a TV.
