Keep wi-fi connected (ad-hoc) when backlight turns off?

So I've recently found ICS Control to tether/share my internet connection from my phone to my laptop and create a WAN with multiple computers.

I've used WMwifirouter before and one thing I noticed with ICS control is that everytime the screen turns off, it would disconnect. The only way to fix this is either to disable auto-power off which is kind of a hassle and I believe would waste battery if the screen was left on for long periods of time. I have tried checking and unchecking the "allow suspend mode" in ICS Control as well but it doesn't do anything.

The thing with WMWifirouter is that even if the screen was off, the connection and internet sharing was still on.

I was wondering if there was a setting or a registry edit that I could do to keep the wireless connection on even if the backlight/screen turned off?

Thanks in advance!
