I have had the same problem with my activesync on my laptop but i haven't been able to figure it out yet but if you have vista the mobile device center will work so you can sync. my sms test notification did go back to zero after 2 soft resets. i don't know if it was because i deleted all of my texts but i did that as well hope this helps.
