Hard reset seem like the way to go, assuming you're using the stock rom. If you're using a custom rom a good, old fashioned flashto shipped reflash seems to be in order. If possible, perhaps (assuming you're running the carriers shipped rom) reflashing the rom from the actual carriers RUU would help, too.
